What? Do you believe this now they want us to be dependent on them, in order to switch out your battery you have to buy there car, you lose the ability of deciding what kind of car you want. Sounds like OPEC to me, pay them for miles, I’ll bet that if you don’t use them in a month you lose them. He did say CELL PHONE right! All the big names are coming out with electric cars, along with others you still can chose! O ya and miles are not a problem I only drive 30m a day and that’s a lot!

no there is a machine, like a car wash. which you drive into, it uses a big hydraulic arm to take the battery into an underground charging facility right below the station. At which point your car moves forward on a moving platform to another hydraulic arm which puts a new battery in. Its already being done in Israel.

But there are hundreds of kilos worth of high tech batteries. They would cost an assload, and would not be something you just “pop out”.

    7. joegocal Says:
      August 12th, 2010 at 3:48 am

they have, “charging stations” wherein you drive in and it pops your battery out to replace it with a new one. You would pay a monthly subscription to the service and get X number of replacements a month. You would also be able to plug your car into a power outlet and that is free

I briefly checked their website out. They rely on charging batteries, but for trips over 100 miles they say they can change batteries, but don’t explain how.

I am very skeptical about this. I am virtually certain that it’s not going to happen like that.

check out the better place project. They have infact figured that problem out and made deals with several car manufacturers to fix that by making replaceable car batteries. And cars which support that technology. Isreal has already started outfitting the country.

If you had studied Project Better Place further would have realised the principle.
Yes I do know how electric cars work.
I would not have expected any other comments from some Luddite.

You obviously have no clue how electric cars work, at all. There are usually many, many batteries formed in packs with a combined weight of several hundred kilos. The batteries are high tech, and very expensive.

Of course I couldn’t expect this level of knowledge of someone with the IQ of a deck chair.

If you would like to see an example, Search google images for Acp_tzero_dsc00309.jpg

      What a smarmy git.

That you can just give away the car for free if you copy the mobile phones business model. Doesnt work like that, you cant just copy the business model and expect the technology that underlies it to work the same. Ridiculous.

I’m not so sure going 40 miles a charge is worthy the price

There are technologies that use both the battery; and enzymes produce gas which is also used by the same platform

It is difficult when America’s government has been legally bribed by the oil manufacturers; and with America being an anti-science nation

Good thing for the people about automobile is, it’s one thing does all device.
So, people end up in using it for half a mile drive to get to a neighborhood store. They get used to it and don’t think about there are other alternatives.

It’s basically becoming a gas powered wheel chair.

Automobile or electric cars have limited use.
It’s not a good short distance device in inner city. It makes congestion, needs a lot of space for parking. It requires big network of roads which often hurts the eco-system
It’s not a good for long distance trip. Train, specially modern high speed models make far quicker and safer trips. And longer distance, plane is a better choice.
If you live in a country, where it takes 50 miles of driving to get to a store, then automobile make sense.
